I-280 eastbound right lane closed this weekend on Bridge
over Passaic River between Morris and Essex counties
Lane closure necessary to pour bridge deck
(Trenton) – The right lane on I-280 eastbound is scheduled to be closed this weekend on the I-280 eastbound Bridge over the Passaic River between East Hanover, Morris County and Roseland, Essex County.
Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, July 31 until 5 a.m. Monday, August 3, the right lane on I-280 eastbound is scheduled to be closed before the Bridge over the Passaic River. One lane will be maintained on the temporary median crossover. The closure is necessary to pour the concrete deck on the left lane of I-280 eastbound bridge and allow time for it to cure without the vibration caused by traffic. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays. By 5 a.m. Monday, August 3, the right lane will reopen, restoring two lanes of traffic on the bridge.
The $12.0 million federally funded project will replace the I-280 eastbound bridge deck on the Bridge over the Passaic River between East Hanover, Morris County and Roseland, Essex County. The project includes abutment improvements, replacing guiderail, installation of a wildlife fence, and scour protection improvements to the piers under the bridge. The project was designed to advance in stages to minimize impact on motorists. Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2029.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
