Many Local Ceremonies and Parades Scheduled Through Monday

Many Memorial Day parades and ceremonies are scheduled throughout the weekend, following the annual Morris County Memorial Day Observance hosted earlier this week by the Board of County Commissioners in Morristown.

Morris Plains Memorial Day Service and 39th Annual Parade, May 24

The Borough of Morris Plains will hold its annual Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Roberts Garden, located at the corner of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way. The 39th annual Memorial Day Parade will follow at 9:30 a.m., featuring approximately 100 participating organizations.

The parade begins at the intersection of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way, proceeds south on Mountain Way, east on Rosedale Avenue, then north on Speedwell Avenue past the reviewing stand at Franklin Place. It continues along Littleton Road and Route 53, ending at VFW Watnong Post 3401.

The parade will pass the Field of Flags, a tribute organized by Watnong VFW Post 3401 at the corner of Routes 53 and 202. Community members may sponsor full-sized flags in honor or memory of veterans. The display will remain in place through June 6.

Mount Arlington Memorial Day Observance, May 24

Mount Arlington will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Memorial Park, located at Mountainside Avenue and North Glenn Avenue.

Following the ceremony, Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge 782 will serve hot dogs and soda to the public at its lodge at 201 Howard Blvd. In case of rain, the ceremony will move to the Elks Lodge and begin at 11 a.m. The annual parade is canceled this year due to traffic from Interstate 80 being diverted onto Howard Boulevard, preventing the road from being closed.

Dover Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, May 26

Dover’s Memorial Day Parade will step off at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, from Rutan Drive, proceeding down Blackwell Street to Hurd Park on Route 46 for a ceremony. The observance at Hurd Park is expected to begin around 10:45 a.m., honoring veterans and fallen service members. Following the ceremony, hot dogs will be provided by the Dover Rotary Club.

Mountain Lakes Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, May 26

Mountain Lakes will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 26. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. in front of Wildwood School and proceed to Memorial Park, where the ceremony will take place immediately following the parade.

All veterans are invited to participate, either by marching from Wildwood School or joining at Memorial Park. Recommended attire is khakis, a blue shirt, a blue blazer or any outfit that feels appropriately patriotic. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled and a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park.

Montville Township Memorial Day Ceremony, May 26

Montville VFW Post 5481 will hold its annual Memorial Day commemoration at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26 at the Tank Monument in Community Park, 132 Changebridge Road.

The Memorial Day ceremony, presented by VFW Post 2833 and the Township of Roxbury, will begin at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial. All are welcome to attend.
