Morris Avenue Bridge Deck Replacement Begins Next Week

No Through Traffic on Morris Avenue in Denville; Detour To Be in Place

Morris Avenue in Denville Township will be closed to through traffic starting next week for the replacement of the bridge deck on the Morris Avenue Bridge over Beaver Brook.

Construction is scheduled to begin on or about Thursday, Aug. 6, with work taking place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during regular business days Monday through Friday. The project is expected to take approximately two months to complete, weather permitting.

The bridge closure will require motorists to follow a signed detour of approximately three miles via Ford Road and Kitchell Road. Truck traffic is advised to use Route 80 as an alternate route. Access to Morris Catholic High School and local businesses will remain open throughout construction.

The existing bridge, a single-span prestressed concrete structure built in 1958, remains structurally sound, but its concrete driving surface has deteriorated over time. Years of patching have failed to prevent recurring potholes, making a deck replacement the most practical and cost-effective solution to extend the bridge's service life.

The $352,725 county-funded project is being completed by CMS Construction of Plainfield, N.J., under contract with Morris County.
