Morris Chamber: Women in Business Luncheon Features Adaptive Fashion Crusader

Published on March 30, 2019

Adaptive fashion crusader and founder of the Runway of Dreams Foundation, Mindy Scheier, will speak April 5 at a luncheon at the Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, an event being hosted by the Women in Business Committee of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce.

Mindy Scheier

Scheier is a nationally recognized leader in promoting adaptive clothing for people with disabilities. After a successful 20-year career in the fashion industry, including with INC International Concepts and Saks Fifth Avenue, Scheier changed directions when her son was born with Rigid Spine Muscular Dystrophy, causing clothing challenges due to muscle weakness and his inability to dress himself.

In response, Scheier founded the Runway of Dreams Foundation, which aims to be the authority on incorporating modifications to mainstream clothing for the differently-abled community, changing the landscape of fashion to become all-inclusive. The foundation collaborates with brands in the fashion industry, including Tommy Hilfiger, to develop, modify and create adaptive versions of mainstream clothing.

Scheier received the 2018 Catalyst Marketing Influencer of the Year Award from ARC; was a Newsweek 2019 Innovator and panelist; appeared on ABC's The View and CBS News; and was a presenter on adaptive clothing at a TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference.

The luncheon will run 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 for chamber members and $130 for non-members. To register, visit https://web.morrischamber.org/events..
