Meet 'N' Greet Event with County and Local Elected Officials at the County Fair on Saturday, July 20

(JPG, 4MB) The Morris County Board of Freeholders earlier this year honored two outstanding 4-H youths

The Morris County 4-H Fair, complete with food, fireworks, hot air balloons, amusement rides, entertainment and education exhibits, and accomplished 4-Hers with their animals and other projects, kicks off at Chubb Park in Chester starting on Thursday and running through Sunday, July 18-21.

This year's 4-H Fair lineup has added a special opportunity for 4-H youth, their families and all fair goers to meet and greet elected county and municipal town officials for informal chats about how local government works, who makes it happen, and specific issues of interest and concern.

This special session will be held on Saturday, July 20, in the Exhibit Tent, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

(JPG, 8KB)Signed up so far for the event are Morris County Freeholders Doug Cabana, Heather Darling, Tom Mastrangelo, and Stephen Shaw; County Clerk Ann Grossi, Chester Borough Mayor Janet Hoven, and Mendham Township Committeewoman Amalia Duarte, with others expected to join the gathering.

This event is part of the 4-H Youth Development Program, which relies on engaged adults to inspire young people to learn skills and attitudes needed to become leaders in their online and real local, county, national and global communities. The participants in Saturday's special event have demonstrated willingness to get involved beyond their neighborhoods and take on leadership roles as public servants.

Morris County 4-H Fair hours are 4 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Download the daily schedule here. Admission is free, but a parking donation of $5 per vehicle is requested. Friday evening, parking donation request is $10 to cover the cost of fireworks.

A wide variety of activities are lined up, including pony and hay rides, watermelon eating and cake decorating contests, demonstrations by nonprofits and youth groups, Dress-a-Pet and Dress-a-Cage contests, Cow Pie Bingo, woodcarving demonstrations, archery, dunk tank, games, live entertainment and food concessions. Animal displays include dogs, horses, goats, poultry, rabbits, and other small animals.

A special $15 pay-one-price for all kiddie rides is scheduled for Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and a $30 pay-one-price for all amusement rides will be offered on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Fair is sponsored by the Morris County 4-H Association in support of the 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
