Morris County Clerk Announces Vote-by-Mail Opt-Out

Voters Who Do Not Wish to Receive a Mail-in Ballot May Opt Out by Aug. 31

Following the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision concerning federal requirements for Vote-by-Mail ballots, the Morris County Clerk’s Office will continue processing Vote-by-Mail ballots in accordance with New Jersey state law.

Ballots are scheduled to begin mailing no later than Sept. 19, 2026.

The announcement comes as the state remains involved in litigation with the federal government concerning Vote-by-Mail procedures. The outcome of the litigation remains pending.

Morris County voters who do not wish to receive a Vote-by-Mail ballot at this time may opt out by completing the Vote-by-Mail Voter Opt-Out Form available on the Morris County Clerk’s website: morriscountyclerk.org/files/sharedassets/clerk/v/2/forms/mib-voter-opt-out-form-112624.pdf

Opt-out requests must be submitted no later than Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.

Once an opt-out request has been received and processed, voters may cast their ballots during the state’s early voting period at one of eight early voting locations or at their assigned polling location on Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026. Information about early voting locations is available on the Morris County Clerk’s website.

Voters who opt out of receiving a Vote-by-Mail ballot may resume receiving ballots in future elections by submitting a new Vote-by-Mail application.

Voters who continue to receive Vote-by-Mail ballots are strongly encouraged to return their completed ballots by mail at least seven days before Election Day or deposit them in a secure ballot drop box. A memo listing the locations is also included in each Vote-by-Mail ballot envelope.
