Morris County Commissioners Proclaim March 2021 Women’s History Month

Women Have Made Major Contributions to Morris County’s Rich Heritage

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution proclaiming March 2021 to be Women’s History Month.

“Women have had a role in our county for centuries, and often have been ignored for their contributions,” said Deputy Director Commissioner Deborah Smith, who also read the closing pronouncement of the proclamation as it was approved at a public meeting last night.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Morris County Board of County Commissioners that March 2021 be proclaimed “Women’s History Month,” and that everyone in Morris County be encouraged to host appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities to recognize the struggles women continue to endure for equality in this world and the major contributions they have made toward the betterment of humankind.”

Women in the area have contributed greatly to the heritage of Morris County, as well as the state and nation since the earliest history of the region. The Morris County Heritage Commission has dedicated a webpage this month to them, entitled “Celebrating Exceptional Women from Morris County’s Past.”

“The women featured here have persevered in the face of tragedy; provided higher education opportunities for women; shaped politics; forged careers in the health care and medical fields; and served in the military during a time when these job arenas were male dominions.  Their efforts are woven into the fabric that is Morris County’s history,” the commission wrote.
