Spring Cleaning for Your Medicine Cabinet

Towns across Morris County will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27 to addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.

According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.(JPG, 78KB)

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Sheriff's Office, and partnering municipal police departments are taking the lead in this effort, through Operation Take Back. The goal is to encourage residents to turn over unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications for proper disposal, to ensure they do not fall into the wrong hands.

"Properly disposing of prescription drugs plays a key role in our continued fight against the heroin and opioid epidemic,'' said Prosecutor Fredic M. Knapp. "The residents of Morris County have strongly supported this initiative in the past, and we are hopeful they will continue to do so on April 27.''
