Morris County Road Paving Project Nears Completion in Morris Twp.

A county paving project on Mendham Road in Morris Township should be done by the end of the week, with more paving projects in Boonton Township, Dover, Hanover, and Mine Hill anticipated to start over the next several weeks in late August and September.photo pof construction barrels on roadway(, 0B)

It is all part of the Morris County Board of Freeholders' plan to pave more than 30 miles of roads across 24 municipalities at a total cost of $9 million in 2018.

Portions of Randolph Avenue in Mine Hill, Blackwell Street in Dover, Highview Avenue in Hanover Township are scheduled to be paved in August and early September.

Specific details on paving of a portion of Powerville Road in Boonton Township should be available soon.

Dates for other county paving this summer and fall will be announced in the near future.

We hope the short-term inconvenience caused for county motorists will be offset by the long-term road improvements resulting from these projects,'' said Freeholder John Cesaro. We are working closely with our contractors to minimize the delays. But there may be times when we just have to ask our residents to be a bit patient as we try to get this work done for you.''

Current Projects:

  • Mendham Road, Morris Township: The 1.5-mile project runs from Indian Head Road to Kahdena Road. Work started on Monday, Aug. 13 and should be done on or near Aug. 24. Topline Construction of Somerville is the contractor. The bid price is $612,222. The project includes storm basin work, milling, paving, guide rails, and striping. Work is taking place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Motorists should expect travel delays.
  • Court Street, Morristown: The 0.1 mile project, which is being done in the heart of the busy state courts and county government district, is expected to conclude in early September. AJM Contractors of Clifton is the contractor. The bid price is $504,372. The project includes new sidewalks, plus milling and paving of the street. Upon completion of the curb and sidewalk work, the contractor will schedule a four-day full closure of Court Street (including a weekend) to remove the current asphalt and repave and stripe the street.
  • Gov. Chris Christie Drive, Parsippany: Paving has been completed on this new main access road to Central Park of Morris County. The road is expected to open in mid-September.

Upcoming Projects:

  • Blackwell Street, Dover: The 0.7-mile project will run from Warren Street to Salem Street. Work has been delayed until early September. AJM Contractors of Clifton will be the contractor. The bid price is $439,065. The project includes storm basin work, milling, paving, ADA ramps, guide rails, and striping. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. One lane of traffic will remain open but motorists should expect traffic delays. The contractor has 20 working days to complete the work.
  • Randolph Avenue, Mine Hill: The 0.9-mile project will run from Route 46 to Randolph Avenue. Work is scheduled to start on Tuesday, Sept.4. A. Alexander of Bloomfield will be the contractor. The bid price is $347,689. The project will include storm basin work, milling, paving, ADA ramps, guide rails, and striping. Work is expected to occur from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorists should expect traffic delays and possible detours. Police in neighboring Wharton say a full road closure may occur at some point. The contractor has 20 working days to complete the job.
  • Highview Avenue, Hanover Twp.: The 0.2-mile project will run to East Hanover Avenue. Work is expected to start in late September. AJM Contractors of Clifton will be the contractor. The bid price is $124,359. The project includes storm basin work, milling, paving, ADA ramps, and striping. Work is expected to occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local residents should expect delays. The contractor has 20 working days to complete the work.

Road Resurafcing Project by Freeholders sign(JPG, 191KB)The Freeholders over the past five years have made the maintenance of the county's 287-mile road network a priority issue. For 2018, the county governing board has allocated $1.1 million in the county's capital budget for paving, combined with nearly $7.9 million in state funding to finance paving projects.

Paving in 2018 is scheduled on county roads located in Butler, Chatham Borough, Dover, Florham Park, Hanover, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, and Madison. Also, for Mendham Township, Mine Hill, Montville, Morris Township, Morristown, Netcong, Parsippany, Pequannock, Randolph, Rockaway Borough, Rockaway Township, Roxbury, Washington Township, and Wharton.

Some of the more extensive work will include portions of Boonton Turnpike in Lincoln Park, Mt. Arlington Boulevard in Roxbury, East Mill Road in Washington Township, Littleton Road in Parsippany, Jacksonville Road in Pequannock, West Dewey Avenue in Roxbury and Jefferson, South Morris Street in Dover, Boulevard in Pequannock, and South Street in Morristown.
