Program Will Highlight 220 Years of Fighting Fires in Morristown

Historian Robert J. Fredericks will discuss 220 years of fighting fires in Morristown to coincide with Morris County Historical Society's exhibit, Up in Smoke.

Based on archives dating back to 1797, Fredericks examined 220 years of firefighting in Morristown, from bucket brigades to state-of-the-art equipment, the evolution of individual fire companies, major fires in Morristown, and contributions to the community made by individual firefighters.

A native of New York City, Fredericks has lived in Morristown and Morris Township for 50 years. He is a past president of MCHS, The Washington Association of New Jersey, and is the Morris Township Historian. His book will be available for purchase and signing.

MCHS is located at Acorn Hall, 68 Morris Ave., Morristown, and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Admission, which includes the exhibits and grounds, is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for students, and is free for children under 12 and MCHS members.
