Historical Society Program Illuminates the Madisonians on the WWI Memorial

Madison's contribution to World War I and the stories of the Madison men who lost their lives in the war is the topic of a talk this Saturday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chase Room of Madison Public Library.

Jim Malcolm of the Madison Historical Society will discuss the stories behind some of the 300 names on Madison's World War I Memorial, which is located at the convergence of Park Avenue and Main Street.

He also will illuminate the activities on the home front and on the front lines to support the war effort, and uncover the role of immigrants, Four Minute Men, Hello Girls and Peach Pits in winning the war.

Jim Malcolm edited the book, The Civil War Journal of Private Heyward Emmell, Ambulance and Infantry Corps: A Very Disagreeable War which was published in 2011. He is a board member of the historical society.

The talk is free. Light refreshments will be served at 10:15 a.m.
