The New Jersey Department of Transportation has announced a long-term lane closure starting this weekend to allow for the start of bridge deck replacement work on Route 15 northbound in Morris County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, until 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, DOT's contractor, Ritacco Construction, is scheduled to close the left lane on Route 15 northbound by installing temporary barriers, barrels and signs in the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson.
By Monday morning, Route 15 northbound will be temporarily reduced from three lanes to two lanes after the Lake Shawnee Exit, and shifted to the right side of the highway for approximately six months during the first stage of the project to replace the bridge deck over Weldon Brook.
The $1.3 million federally-funded bridge project includes replacing the Route 15 northbound bridge deck, and bridge scour countermeasures in Weldon Brook to protect the abutments. The project is being accomplished in stages and is expected to be completed in summer 2018.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacement project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check DOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for DOT news follow them on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
