Morris Prosecutor: Fatal Fire at Parsippany Apartments

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Prosecutor's Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Andrew Miller confirm the investigation of a fire that occurred at the Rutgers Village Apartment Complex in Parsippany on Sunday (Dec. 29).Morris County Prosecutor's Office seal(, 0B)

At approximately 12:34 p.m., the Deputy Chief of the Parsippany District #5 Fire Department was at the Rutgers Village Apartment Complex and observed an active fire. Multiple apartments were heavily damaged as a result of the fire.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire resulted in one fatality. The investigation remains ongoing and the identity of the individual will not be released by the Prosecutor's Office at this time. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however, there is no indication that the fire was intentionally set.

Prosecutor Knapp would like to thank the Parsippany Fire and Police departments, Prosecutor's Office Arson Environmental Crimes Unit and Major Crimes Unit, and all other mutual aid providers for their efforts in this matter.
