Morris Residents: Earned Income Tax Credit €“ Find Out If You Qualify

Published on January 27, 2019

Morris County residents who worked full or part-time or were self-employed in 2018 may qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).(PNG, 83KB)

The EITC is a federal and state tax benefit for individuals and families who earn low-to moderate incomes in New Jersey. It is a tax credit that may reduce the amount of taxes you owe, or provide you with a refund, even if you don't owe any taxes.

For example, a family with three or more children who earned wages or self-employment income up to $54,884 in 2018, may qualify. Depending on income and family size, you could receive a federal credit in the range of $519 to $6,431, and a state credit of $192 to $2,380.

To learn more about EITC, call 1-888-895-9179 or visit http://www.njeitc.org/. Also, you can contact the Morris County Department of Human Services.

To get the NJ state EITC, you must file a federal tax form, be eligible for the federal EITC and file a state income tax return (if you are married but file separately, you may not claim the NJ EITC).
