Lit only once a year, the memorial fire is contained within the globe element located at the POW/MIA/PTSD wall. The flame is maintained throughout the 24 hour vigil.

This year organizers will unveil a Liberty Bell element which will be part of the vigil. While conducting the vigil names of those MIA from New Jersey will be read and a "dog-tag" with each MIA veterans' information will be hung on the AVM.

During a closing ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the flame will be extinguished, signifying the end of the vigil.

The event is open to Veteran Service Organizations, and others who wish to support the vigil. Additional organizations planning to support the event include Mount Olive High School Air Force Junior ROTC, Operation Decisive Victory and Mission 22.

National POW/MIA day is always the 3rd Friday of September.
