Gas Main Installation with Limited Local Access Through Mid-September
Beginning Monday, July 21, Schooleys Mountain Road (County Route 517) will be closed between Newburgh Road and Route 57 in Washington Township for the installation of a gas main.
Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to continue through mid-September, weather permitting.
While the roadway will be closed to through traffic, one lane will remain open to accommodate local traffic. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles, residents, and essential services, including garbage collection, mail delivery and package carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
Traffic safety will be supported by three uniformed officers stationed along Schooleys Mountain Road -- one at each end of the work zone and one positioned near Heath Village. Two additional traffic control officers will assist vehicles entering and exiting nearby residences and businesses.
Detours will be in place for both northbound and southbound traffic:
Northbound Detour on Schooleys Mountain Road
- Turn left onto Newburgh Road.
- Turn right on to Route 57.
- Continue straight to the intersection with Schooleys Mountain Road (end of detour).
Southbound Detour on Mountain Avenue/Route 182/Schooleys Mountain Road
- Turn right onto Route 57.
- Turn left onto Newburgh Road.
- Continue straight to the intersection with Schooleys Mountain Road (end of detour).
The project is being managed by Elizabethtown Gas and performed by Skoda Contracting Company. For more information or to report questions or concerns, please contact the Morris County Division of Engineering and Transportation at 973-285-6750.
