Water Main Work to Commence on February 5

New Jersey American Water will install approximately 4,000 feet of new water main along Shunpike Road, from the intersection with Loantaka Way to Southern Boulevard.

The work is set to begin on February 5 and is expected to take about three months to complete. Working hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Shunpike Road will be closed for the duration of the project, and a detour will be in place for traffic. Heavy delays are anticipated, so plan accordingly.

Detour for Loantaka Way traffic:

  • Northbound traffic on Loantaka Way will be diverted to make a right onto Woodland Road. Traffic will be directed to turn right onto Green Village Road, leading to Shunpike Road.
  • Southbound traffic on Loantaka Way will be detoured to make a left onto Spring Valley Road. Traffic will then continue onto Green Village Road, leading to Shunpike Road.

Detour for westbound Shunpike Road traffic:

  • Westbound traffic on Shunpike will make a left onto Green Village Road. Traffic will then continue onto Spring Valley Road. Vehicles will then be directed to make a right turn onto Loantaka Way, leading to Shunpike Road.

Residents along Shunpike Road and Chatham Day School-related traffic will have special access. Traffic directors will be on-site to assist these vehicles through the work zone.
