The Montville Stigma-Free Task Force invites visual artists to submit artwork for Expressions of Hope, an art show and community event on October 19.
Submissions should express complex emotions, experiences, and stories surrounding mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and the stigma associated with them.
All artists, both professional and amateur, are encouraged to submit their work to the Montville Stigma-Free Task Force for consideration. There is no entry fee and there is no limit on number of submissions. Artists must be at least age 13.
Expressions of Hope is an annual community event held at Montville Senior House that seeks to raise awareness, encourage hope, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health disorders and substance use disorders. The Mental Health Players will perform during the event and health advocates attend to provide information.

This event is part of the countywide Morris County Stigma-Free initiative, which is focused on removing the stigma associated with mental illness and substance abuse, to foster a climate of healing and recovery.
The primary reason people fail to seek the help they need is due to the stigma associated with the disease of mental illness. Main reasons cited are shame and fear of judgment from friends, family and co-workers. Such judgment is often rooted in a lack of knowledge or training.
Morris County is committed to disseminating information and fostering a stigma-free environment where people are free from judgment and can get the help they need to recover from diseases such as mental illness and substance abuse.
