Volunteers Provide Food and Love to Seniors During Pandemic

Supporting Our Seniors, a group of volunteers from the Rockaway area, was honored by the Morris County Housing Authority on Feb. 11 with an official resolution in gratitude for the meals and support they have been providing during the pandemic to senior citizens who live in Pleasant View Village in Rockaway.

Responding to a call for assistance during the pandemic, concerned citizens in the Rockaway area stepped in to support Pleasant View Village residents who were socially isolated, food insecure and vulnerable.

Thanks to donations via a Go Fund Me Page, more than 800 hot meals purchased from local restaurants were given to the residents, but that was only the beginning. The volunteers also donated countless hours to deliver meals, assist with Interfaith Food Pantry emergency food delivery, call tenants for reminders and just for companionship. They made masks, cards, candy, cookies, floral arrangements and holiday crafts. Volunteers organized birthday caravans to celebrate the 99th birthdays of two residents, as well as celebrated milestones with other residents, driving through the complex with decorated cars, signs and smiles.

The resolution concludes, "Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority County of Morris, on behalf of all the residents at Pleasant View Village, extend their sincere appreciation to SUPPORTING OUR SENIORS (SOS) for providing nutritious meals and everlasting memories, therefore improving the quality of life to those that live at Pleasant View Village."
