Preliminary Work Starts in Jefferson Today, West Hanover Avenue Project Begins Thursday

Repaving work will begin on a short stretch of West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township, Morris Plains and Parsippany Township on Thursday, June 3, while preliminary work on another resurfacing project along Berkshire Valley Road gets underway today in Jefferson Township.

The $827,530 Morris County project on West Hanover Avenue involves a 1.4-mile stretch between Koch Avenue and Stiles Avenue and includes milling, paving, reconstructing and resetting inlets, a beam guiderail and other ancillary work.  The contractor is J.A. Alexander Inc.

No plan for detours has yet to be announced.

The $843,828 Morris County project on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township involves a 2.1-mile stretch of road between Taylor Road and Blue Road.  Work will begin with tree removal, focusing on ash trees of up to 36 inches in diameter, which are being decimated by an invasive insect, the Emerald Ash Borer.

Guiderail construction also will begin, followed by milling of the road by about June 6.

The roadway will be repaved, with rumble strip and fog seal strips put in place. No detours are planned, but traffic flow will be controlled around the work areas.
