Morris County Observes International Overdose Awareness Day

With heart-wrenching personal stories, parents who lost loved-ones to overdoses and recovering addicts today joined Morris County and state officials, as well as nonprofit groups to observe International Overdose Awareness Day, as drug related deaths continued to surge around the nation.

Veteran Peer Support Group Sessions Underway in Morris County

The Morris County Veterans Services Office and NewBridge Services have begun a bimonthly veteran peer support group, which meets the first and third Thursdays of each month. The 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. sessions are FREE to all veterans no matter their length of service or discharge status.

$325 Million Program for Struggling Homeowners to Launch Feb. 8

On Feb. 8, New Jersey will launch the Emergency Rescue Mortgage Assistance Program, a federally financed program for homeowners who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $35,000, plus free housing counseling services, to cover mortgage arrearages, delinquent property taxes and other housing cost delinquencies.

Navigating Hope and Hope One Make Huge Impact in 2021

Morris County put wheels on its outreach services a few years ago, creating offices in vans with professional staff who set up shop in different communities each day. Record numbers of people were reached in 2021, as many in need were linked to social services assistance through the Navigating Hope van and people with substance abuse and mental health issues were contacted by the Hope One van.

Dec. 15 Deadline to Apply for Rental and Utilities Assistance

The Morris County Department of Human Services issued a reminder today that Dec. 15 is the deadline set by the state Department of Community Affairs on submitting applications for rental assistance, eviction protection and assistance in paying overdue utility bills.

Morris County a National Leader in Disbursing COVID-19 Rental Aid

The Morris County Department of Human Services has been highly successful in disbursing federal rental assistance made available to families and landlords impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, countering a national trend in which disbursements have stalled. The county has disbursed most of its funds, while only about a fifth of the funds issued nationwide have been disbursed.

Family Farm Delivers Fresh Produce to Low-Income Seniors

The Morris County Nutrition Program has partnered with Ort Farms in Washington Township to create a pilot, farm-to-table program this summer that has allowed low-income senior citizens to order produce that will be bagged at the farm and delivered to their housing complex.

Free Summer Youth Employment Program Open to Morris County Teens

Morris County teenagers ages 14 to 18 can learn employment and life skills through NewBridge Services’ free summer youth employment program, starting June 28. High schoolers attend the program in-person or virtually for two hours once a week, and participate in supervised community service projects on Thursdays Classes are offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

New Jersey SNAP Recipients Getting Extra Benefits

Morris County residents participating in New Jersey’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will be among 231,000 households receiving extra benefits this month under a recent change in policy at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In part, it means 137,000 New Jersey households that were already receiving the maximum available SNAP benefit became eligible for a $95 supplement for April.
