The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation of serious crimes committed throughout Morris County. Detectives assigned to the division conduct complex investigations including homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, financial crimes, and other major offenses.
The division works closely with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure thorough and professional investigations. Detectives are specially trained in a wide range of investigative techniques, forensic sciences, and evidence collection.

The Crime Scene Investigation Unit responds to major crime scenes throughout Morris County to collect, document, and preserve physical evidence. Detectives assigned to this unit are specially trained in forensic photography, evidence collection, and crime scene reconstruction to support criminal prosecutions.
The Morris County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab provides forensic analysis services in support of criminal investigations throughout the county. Lab personnel process and analyze physical evidence including fingerprints, DNA, trace evidence, and digital media to assist investigators and prosecutors.
The Ballistics and Firearms Unit is responsible for the examination and analysis of firearms, ammunition, and ballistic evidence recovered in criminal investigations. Detectives in this unit are trained in firearm identification, trajectory analysis, and toolmark examination.
The Evidence Unit is responsible for the secure intake, storage, tracking, and disposition of all evidence and property collected by the Sheriff's Office. Evidence technicians maintain a strict chain of custody to ensure the integrity of all items submitted for criminal proceedings.
MCSTAT (Morris County Statistics) is the Sheriff's Office crime analysis and strategic intelligence function. MCSTAT analysts collect, analyze, and disseminate crime data to support targeted enforcement operations and resource deployment across Morris County, helping to identify trends and address emerging public safety concerns.
Sheriff's Office detectives are assigned to various county, state, and federal task forces targeting organized crime, narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, and other serious criminal enterprises. Task force assignments allow the Sheriff's Office to collaborate with partner agencies and leverage shared resources in support of regional public safety efforts.
