Overview

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency located in the Morris County Courthouse, a historic landmark in the heart of Morristown, New Jersey. In existence since 1739, its members serve a population of 499,509 (2015 est.) residents spread out over 481 square miles.

Under the leadership of Sheriff James M. Gannon, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and its 330 officers and employees is responsible for providing highly technical and specialized services to local law enforcement agencies.

In June of 2004, Morris County Sheriff’s Office became the 24th law enforcement agency in the United States to receive the “Triple Crown Award” from the National Sheriffs’ Association.

In meeting or exceeding the high standards set forth by the foregoing agencies, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office achieved this coveted status as a direct result of the outstanding effort, diligence, professionalism and teamwork put forth on a daily basis by the officers and employees of this agency.

We are most proud of our working relationship with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and its staff and the Morris County Chiefs of Police Association.

Mission Statement

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is committed to upholding the state of New Jersey’s constitutional requirements of the office; securing the county courthouse, all the while standing ready to support and augment all other law enforcement agencies when requested, with any and all of our specialized service units. These duties will be accomplished through collaborative efforts, responsible use of resources, sound administrative policies, continued technological advances, and leadership development. We recognize that the ability to successfully complete our mission is based on a shared mutual respect and responsibility between the sheriff’s office, federal, county and municipal agencies, and the citizens we serve.
