Become a Poll Worker

Are you interested in becoming a Poll Worker?

Your community needs you! By staffing a polling location, you will:

Earn $300 for working on Election Day and $21.43 per hour on in-person Early Voting days.
See our great democracy in action, firsthand, and enjoy the feeling that comes with contributing to your local community, your state and your country.

Be a part of your democracy – become a Poll Worker! Poll Workers are trained to aid voters on Election Day, guide them through the voting process, and answer any questions voters have. They are a vital part of every election!

Residents of all ages, including college and High School students, are encouraged to apply.

Hours & Rate of Pay (Primary or General Election)

Report to your polling location at 5:00 am.
Polls close at 8:00 pm on Election Day.
You will receive $300 for the day.
Poll Workers who pick up and/or drop off the poll books & election supplies at the Municipal Clerk’s Office shall receive an additional $12.50.

Training

You must attend training provided by the Board of Elections.
All Poll Workers must attend training classes at least once every two years.
When new Laws are introduced, mandatory training may be required for all.
New Poll Worker classes are held at the Public Safety Training Academy located at 500 West Hanover Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960.
Training Classes are hands-on and approximately three and a half hours long. They are held 3 – 4 weeks prior to the Primary and General Elections.

Online

Step 1.Verify you are eligible to be a Poll Worker

You are a registered voter in Morris County.
You are able to read and speak the English language.
You are able to work a full day. No half day schedules.

If you are not registered to vote in Morris County, you can register to vote here.

Step 2.Apply online

Complete the Poll Worker Application, submit & sign.

Step 3.Receive your confirmation

You will receive a confirmation email from our online form provider, SeamlessDocs.

Step 4.Check your email

You will be contacted approximately eight weeks before the next election with the training class schedule.

Step 5.Choose your class

Select the one class date and time that best fits your schedule and submit.

Note the location, date, and time for you records.

You will receive a confirmation from this office acknowledging receipt of your class choice as your name will automatically be placed on the Training Class Roster.

Step 6.Attend Class

At the end of training, you will receive the next steps on assigning the district and polling location at which you will work on Election Day.

Step 3.Wait for notification for Training Classes

Approximately eight weeks before the next election you will be sent the training class schedule.

Select the one class date and time that best fits your schedule.

Note the location, date, and time for you records.

You will NOT receive a confirmation from this office acknowledging receipt of your class choice as your name will automatically be placed on the Training Class Roster.
