Dicksons Mill Road in Harding Township will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, Sept. 21, after the morning rush hour, as Morris County replaces the bridge over Silver Brook.

The bridge closure will require motorists to follow a signed detour of approximately 2.5 miles via Spring Valley Road and Blue Mill Road. Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to drive with caution. Planning alternate routes is encouraged during construction.

Work will occur between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The project is expected to take approximately six months to complete, weather permitting.

The existing bridge, a single-span structure built in 1923 and widened in 1984, has deteriorated over time. The prestressed concrete beams have minor cracking and water leakage from the roadway through the beam joints, and some material loss has occurred in the foundation area, making replacement the most practical long-term solution.

The new bridge will consist of prestressed concrete beams with a concrete deck, stone-faced concrete wingwalls and a four-bar steel railing.

The $1,436,895 project is funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation through its Local Bridges Fund Program and is being completed by CMS Construction of Plainfield, N.J., under contract with Morris County.
