Rental assistance funds are still available in Morris County and the State of New Jersey to people from low- and moderate-income households that had a substantial reduction in income, have qualified for unemployment benefits, incurred significant costs or experienced a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Morris County received $14.6 million to disburse beginning in March.

Dec. 15 Deadline to Apply for Rental and Utilities Assistance

The Morris County Department of Human Services issued a reminder today that Dec. 15 is the deadline set by the state Department of Community Affairs on submitting applications for rental assistance, eviction protection and assistance in paying overdue utility bills.

The Morris County Department of Human Services has been highly successful in disbursing federal rental assistance made available to families and landlords impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, countering a national trend in which disbursements have stalled. The county has disbursed most of its funds, while only about a fifth of the funds issued nationwide have been disbursed.

Morris County announced today that federal rental assistance remains available to qualified families and can assist landlords, as Legal Services of New Jersey additionally warned renters not to ignore court notices related to settlement of eviction actions.
The announcements come as New Jersey’s COVID-19 moratorium on residential evictions prepares to end in January.
