NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path
The NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path will be a 4.8-mile shared-use path starting at River Drive in Pequannock and ending at the Mountain View Train Station in Wayne.
The path will be constructed on top of the inactive railroad bed of the New York, Susquehanna, and Western (NYS&W) Railway. The paved path will be separated from automobile traffic; although, the path will cross streets along the corridor.
The path will serve as a transportation and recreational facility that will connect residents, commuters, and visitors with area parks, schools, libraries, businesses, and transit.
The Final Design of the NYS&W Bicycle and Pedestrian Path Project was presented at a virtual public meeting on July 29, 2020. Morris County purchased the railroad right-of-way from the NYS&W Railway Corporation in August 2020, and the path's design was completed in the fall of 2020.
Morris County anticipates construction of the path to start in the spring of 2021.
Virtual Public Meeting – July 29
A virtual public meeting was held on July 29 where staff from Morris County and the path's design consultant, NV5, presented the design of the upcoming trail.
All attendees had the opportunity to see current design plans, renderings of the proposed project, and hear about project specifics such as the anticipated construction schedule.
