About Us

We secure funding for road, bridge, railroad, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. We also plan, design, and coordinate transportation projects.

Engineering staff:
  • designs, constructs, re-constructs, and paves county roads
  • bridge and culvert construction, drainage, and repair specifications
  • designs and constructs County building facilities and traffic signals on County roads

Transportation staff:
  • conduct studies and coordinate planning efforts with state agencies, municipalities, county departments, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority
  • supervise three county-owned freight railroads

The Morris County Board of Transportation advises the Division on its activities. It's appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

East Hanover Avenue Bridge Rail Clearance Project - Public Comment Period

The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) in partnership with Morris County is investigating alternatives to eliminate the height restriction on NJ Transit's Morristown Line between Denville and Morristown that restricts the movement of Plate “F” Railcars to the Whippany Line. The first public meeting was held on October 14, and comments are accepted through November 14. Review the meeting materials and submit comments on the Project Website.

Paving Scheduled Friday on Mendham Road in Mendham Township

Beginning Friday, Oct. 17, Morris County will begin paving operations at the intersection of Mendham Road (County Route 510) and Roxiticus Road in Mendham Township. Read the Press Release for more information.

Local Safety Action Plan Adopted by Morris County Commissioners

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners this week approved a Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP), a strategic framework developed with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) to improve roadway safety and reduce fatal and serious injury crashes across the county. Roadwork Set for Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson, starts week of 9/22 or 9/29

Milling and paving on Berkshire Valley Road (County Road 699) in Jefferson Township are expected to begin the week of Sept. 22 or Sept. 29, following completion of drainage work now underway. Read the press release for more information.

West Hanover Avenue Lane Closures Begin July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21, lane closures will occur along West Hanover Avenue between Koch Avenue and the Morris County Public Safety Complex for expansion and improvement work on sewer, water and other utility lines. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday next week, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. One lane will be open in each direction to accommodate eastbound and westbound traffic. Lane Closure on Sussex Turnpike Westbound in Randolph Twp - Begins July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21 the westbound lane of Sussex Turnpike (County Road 617) will be closed between Canfield Avenue and the Randolph Tennis Center in Randolph Township for the installation of a new gas main. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting. Schooleys Mountain Road Closure in Washington Twp - Begins July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21, Schooleys Mountain Road (County Route 517) will be closed between Newburgh Road and Route 57 in Washington Township for the installation of a gas main. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to continue through mid-September, weather permitting.
