Share Your NJ Flood Story

The Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts has launched “Rising Together, NJ,” a social media campaign that encourages people to come together to share their experiences with flooding in New Jersey. Ultimately, the goal is to compile these experiences into an archive everyone can use to support flood risk outreach and education efforts.

Guidance for telling your story:

Your story could be about small changes you’ve seen over time or a life-changing event. It could have been during a storm, a high tide, or even a sunny day flood.

You are welcome to use words, photos, videos, or any form of expression that feels right to you. As you consider what to include in the story, please consider the following questions:

  • Where in New Jersey did your flooding story take place?
  • What happened?
  • How did the experience affect you?
  • Did the experience change how you think about flooding?
  • If you had to share one message about flooding with all of New Jersey, what would it be?

The Research Reserve has a communications group who can help share your story, for example, by assisting you with framing the narrative, filming, or creating complementary graphics. If interested in this option, let them know!
