About Us

We secure funding for road, bridge, railroad, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. We also plan, design, and coordinate transportation projects.

Engineering staff:
  • designs, constructs, re-constructs, and paves county roads
  • bridge and culvert construction, drainage, and repair specifications
  • designs and constructs County building facilities and traffic signals on County roads

Transportation staff:
  • conduct studies and coordinate planning efforts with state agencies, municipalities, county departments, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority
  • supervise three county-owned freight railroads

The Morris County Board of Transportation advises the Division on its activities. It's appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

NJTPA Long Range Transportation Plan - Public Comment Period and Virtual Meeting

The 30-day public comment period is underway for Connecting Communities, the NJTPA’s draft Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) update. The comment period ends on August 5. There will be a virtual open house public meeting on July 17 from 4 to 7 pm. The public is also invited to provide feedback on the State's FY 2026-2035 Transportation Improvement Program. Lane Closure on Flanders-Netcong Road in Mount Olive

Beginning Monday, June 23, southbound traffic on Flanders-Netcong Road (County Route 613) between U.S. Route 206 and Flanders-Drakestown Road will be temporarily detoured for Phase 1 of an erosion control project. Morris County Safety Action Plan - Virtual Public Meeting - 5/29

Morris County is developing Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP) which will identify and prioritize transportation safety improvements to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on county and municipal roadways. Join us for a virtual public workshop on May 29 at 6pm to learn more about the LSAP and provide feedback on the plan’s recommendations and priorities. Pompton Valley Rail Trail - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - 5/29

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners and the Morris County Park Commission are inviting the public and media to join in the official ribbon-cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the Pompton Valley Rail Trail on Thursday, May 29, at 3 p.m. The former New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad’s Greenwood Lake Branch has been converted into a 5.1-mile paved trail traveling through Pequannock in Morris County to Wayne in Passaic County. Read the County press release for more information.

Lenape Island Bridge Study - Public Information Center - 4/24

Morris County will host a second online “Public Information Center” meeting to share facts about a concept development study for replacing the Lenape Island Bridge at Indian Lake in Denville with residents, organizations and businesses. The meeting and project implementation are being conducted in cooperation with the NJDOT and the NJTPA. Read the Press Release for more details.

Lane Closure Notice for Sussex Turnpike

Beginning on or about Monday, Nov. 18, westbound traffic on Sussex Turnpike (CR 617) between Raynor Road and West Hanover Avenue will be detoured for a rock slope stabilization project. Work is scheduled between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is expected to take approximately three months to complete.
