About Us

We secure funding for road, bridge, railroad, bicycle, and pedestrian projects. We also plan, design, and coordinate transportation projects.

Engineering staff:
  • designs, constructs, re-constructs, and paves county roads
  • bridge and culvert construction, drainage, and repair specifications
  • designs and constructs County building facilities and traffic signals on County roads

Transportation staff:
  • conduct studies and coordinate planning efforts with state agencies, municipalities, county departments, and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority
  • supervise three county-owned freight railroads

The Morris County Board of Transportation advises the Division on its activities. It's appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Public Meeting on East Hanover Avenue Bridge Rail Clearance Project

Morris County, in partnership with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14 regarding the “East Hanover Avenue Bridge Catenary Rail Clearance Project.” The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with presentations at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Read the Press Release and visit the Project Website for more information.

Local Safety Action Plan Adopted by Morris County Commissioners

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners this week approved a Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP), a strategic framework developed with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) to improve roadway safety and reduce fatal and serious injury crashes across the county. Roadwork Set for Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson, starts week of 9/22 or 9/29

Milling and paving on Berkshire Valley Road (County Road 699) in Jefferson Township are expected to begin the week of Sept. 22 or Sept. 29, following completion of drainage work now underway. Read the press release for more information.

Minnisink Road Bridge Repairs Begin Monday, August 11

Beginning Monday, August 11,Morris County has scheduled emergency repair work on Bridge No. 1400-829 on Minnisink Road, which carries traffic over a tributary to the Rockaway River at the border of Roxbury and Jefferson townships. Read the Press Release for more information.

Bridge Repairs to Begin July 29 on Roxiticus Road in Mendham Township

Beginning Tuesday, July 29, Morris County will start repairs on Bridge No. 1400-645 on Roxiticus Road over a tributary to Gladstone Brook in Mendham Township. Work is scheduled to take place weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is expected to take one to two weeks, weather permitting. Read the Press Release for more information.

Roadwork Begins on Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pequannock July 28

Beginning on or about Monday, July 28, roadway improvements will begin on Newark Pompton Turnpike (County Route 660) between Route 23 and Jacksonville Road in Pequannock Township. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is expected to continue through early October, weather permitting. West Hanover Avenue Lane Closures Begin July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21, lane closures will occur along West Hanover Avenue between Koch Avenue and the Morris County Public Safety Complex for expansion and improvement work on sewer, water and other utility lines. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday next week, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. One lane will be open in each direction to accommodate eastbound and westbound traffic. Lane Closure on Sussex Turnpike Westbound in Randolph Twp - Begins July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21 the westbound lane of Sussex Turnpike (County Road 617) will be closed between Canfield Avenue and the Randolph Tennis Center in Randolph Township for the installation of a new gas main. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting. Schooleys Mountain Road Closure in Washington Twp - Begins July 21

Beginning Monday, July 21, Schooleys Mountain Road (County Route 517) will be closed between Newburgh Road and Route 57 in Washington Township for the installation of a gas main. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is expected to continue through mid-September, weather permitting. Lane Closure on Flanders-Netcong Road in Mount Olive

Beginning Monday, June 23, southbound traffic on Flanders-Netcong Road (County Route 613) between U.S. Route 206 and Flanders-Drakestown Road will be temporarily detoured for Phase 1 of an erosion control project.
