Preserving Morris County’s Historical Past
As Morris County celebrates America’s 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the local people, places, and events that helped shape our nation are receiving more attention than ever. It’s a popular fact that more Revolutionary War battles and encampments arose in New Jersey than any other colony. What is often overlooked is the physical locations in which these events took place. From farm fields to churches and modest dwellings almost forgotten, Morris County is still home to many historic sites that bore witness to the American Revolution.
For over 20 years the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund program has been at the forefront of preservation within the county. The Fund considers grants for the acquisition, stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration or preservation of historic resources by municipalities, qualified non-profits and the County. Over the life of the program, the County Commissioners have made grant awards through the Historic Preservation Trust Fund program to 136 historic sites/resources located in 35 municipalities in Morris County.
